What to Prepare
In order to pay online your Japan taxes via credit card you need to prepare a few things first for an easy process. These include:
- Tax Notice/Tax Payment Slip: Your tax payment slip must include information of “Tax Payment Number,” “Confirmation Number,” and “Tax Payment Classification” in order to pay any taxes. If not provided, you are unable to pay tax via credit card.

Certificate of Tax Payment
Unfortunately, through using this method, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government will not issue receipts. Although a certificate of tax payment can be requested from counters of metropolitan tax offices after approximately 10 days from the date of tax payment. Per each tax certificate requested, 400 Yen is required to cover the cost. It is recommended that if you need a receipt or if you require a certificate of tax payment prior to the 10 days then you should pay your taxes using other methods such as using a convenience store or by visiting a banking organisation. If the certificate requested is regarding a motor vehicle tax payment certificate, this will become available from counters of metropolitan tax offices by around 14 days.
Cancellation and Changes
Unfortunately, through using this method, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government will not allow for cancellation or adjustments after completing the payments.
